Since his first film “Bottle Rocket” in 1996, filmmaker Wes Anderson has remained fairly consistent with his filmmaking. There are no real gaps in his resume with each of his films opening anywhere from 2-4 years after the prior one.

His eleventh, “Asteroid City,” hits limited screens next week ahead of a wider opening on June 23rd. But it turns out the gap between this and his next film will be far shorter – not years, but potentially months.

Anderson’s next is “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar,” his second adaptation of a Roald Dahl work following “Fantastic Mr. Fox”. Here his approach appears to be a tetraptych, adapting four of Dahl’s darkest short stories. Two of the four are confirmed to be “The Ratcatcher” and “The Swan” with a third presumably the one where the film gets its title.

Now, The Film Stage (via The Playlist) reports that Anderson seems to have completed the Netflix film ahead of its unveiling in the back half of this year. On top of that, Anderson’s thirteenth feature is already gearing up to film in a few months with Michael Cera in talks to star and both Jeff Goldblum and Benicio Del Toro circling.

“Asteroid City” cinematographer Robert Yeoman revealed the news to the outlet, saying Anderson jumped to work on ‘Henry Sugar’ as soon as he completed ‘Asteroid’, adding that “he works harder than anybody”.

‘Henry Sugar’ features four separate stories, with cast members playing different roles in at least two each. Benedict Cumberbatch, Ralph Fiennes, Dev Patel, Ben Kingsley, Rupert Friend, and Richard Ayoade are some of the names who sport various roles throughout the film.

Three of the stories were reportedly shot on a stage, one in a jungle, and each one has a very distinct look though all are shot on 16mm film. Yeoman actually saw the film back when it was being color timed several months ago and advises: “it’s a little bit different style than what Wes ordinarily does.”

“The Wonderful Story Of Henry Sugar” is expected to premiere on the Fall film circuit followed by a Netflix release later this year. Anderson will reportedly begin shooting his next feature before the year is out.
