Paramount+ & Disney+

The past week has seen the midpoint episodes of the third seasons of “The Mandalorian” and “Star Trek: Picard” bringing back some actors familiar to the franchise over twenty years after they played iconic characters in each.

SPOILERS AHEAD FOR BOTH SERIES UP TO THIS WEEK

Today’s launch of the fourth episode of “The Mandalorian” sees Ahmed Best, who first played Jar Jar Binks in the “Star Wars” prequels at the age of 25 in 1999, returning nearly 25 years later. Here he takes on the role of a Jedi Knight named Kelleran Beq who helps Grogu get off Coruscant in a flashback sequence to the time of ‘Order 66’.

Best already played the role for an online children’s game show called “Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge” in 2020. He also had a cameo as club parton named Achk Med-Beq in “Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones” and has previously said the characters were related.

Meanwhile over on “Picard,” actress Michelle Forbes reprised her role of Ro Laren, the strong-willed Bajoran ensign and Jean-Luc Picard’s prodigal daughter figure who betrayed him and Starfleet in the penultimate episode of “Star Trek: The Next Generation”.

In the fifth episode of the new season, Forbes arrives on the Titan to deal with Picard and Riker’s insubordination before secretly revealing her real reason which ties to the season’s greater conspiracy plot.

It results in arguably the most emotional episode of the new run as Ro and Picard finally confront their relationship, delivering proper closure to nearly thirty year old story arc – and all mixed in with a paranoia thriller.

Speaking about her return, Forbes posted on Instagram:

“Ro taught me a lot. I’ve held those lessons close. She always stayed true to her word & beliefs. Always honest. Even if uncomfortable.

Was very happy to be back in Patrick & Johnny F’s arms and eat breakfast and laugh together again! Much gratitude to Roddenberry for the original universe. Always seeking peace & unity through our human frailty.

I will be forever grateful to Rick Berman & Jeri Taylor for creating this character. Its been sweet to carry and hold her for decades. She’s such a deep part of my heart and I love that we share that.”

Forbes marks just one of various high-profile guest stars for the new run of “Picard” with another familiar face set to make a cameo next week.
