“Jurassic World” director Colin Trevorrow is teaming with “House of the Dragon” writer/co-executive producer Charmaine DeGrate for the film “Atlantis” at Skydance.
The project was previously in development at Universal who returned the project to Trevorrow in turnaround. Skydance seized the opportunity to acquire the film which had a previous draft penned by Dante Harper (“Edge of Tomorrow,” “Alien: Covenant”).
Skydance then closed a deal with Trevorrow to direct and produce while DeGrate is writing. Trevorrow, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger will produce.
DeGrate and Trevorrow are now reconceiving Harper’s fantasy adventure script based on the fabled advanced civilization that sank beneath the waves.
Unlike previous incarnations of the mythical city as an underwater kingdom, the Harper script painted it as a lost continent in the Indian Ocean between Africa, India and Oceania – a multicultural civilization with its own advanced technology. How much will be changed by the new pair’s re-writes is not clear.
DeGrate rose through the writing/producing ranks on The CW’s dark post-apocalyptic drama “The 100,” is co-executive producer on Amazon’s rock band drama “Daisy Jones & the Six,” consulting producer on the upcoming hunt for John Wilkes Booth series “Manhunt,” and is writing/co-executive producing the “Star Wars: The Acolyte” series which is currently in production.
No potential production start date is in place yet. Trevorrow most recently helmed “Jurassic World: Dominion”.
