After eight weeks, James Cameron’s “Avatar: The Way of Water” looks set to finally be knocked of the No. 1 spot at the box office this weekend as M. Night Shyamalan’s thriller “Knock at the Cabin” the sports comedy “80 for Brady” are both on track to open above Cameron’s epic domestically.

Apocalyptic thriller ‘Knock’ took in $5.4 million on Friday (including $1.45 million in Thursday previews) and is currently on track to open on top with roughly $14.5 million – a little under the projections from earlier this week likely due to the mixed reviews from critics.

The CinemaScore is a rather woeful ‘C’ suggesting the film won’t have long legs, but with a $20 million production budget, it’ll likely still end up profitable.

“80 for Brady” sees Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno and Sally Field fawning over now retired (again) quarterback Tom Brady that managed to snag $4.7 million across its opening day (with previews).

Projections see it coming in for a $13 million debut, a solid number for an older audience-targeted movie and for a film that drew even more mixed reviews than ‘Knock’. The more favorable ‘A-‘ CinemaScore from audiences suggest it’ll have a longer life.

“Avatar: The Way of Water” meanwhile will come in third place with a 33% drop down to roughly $10 million for its eighth weekend. By the end of this weekend, it will sit at around $636 million and could pass both “Jurassic World” ($653 million) and “Titanic” ($659 million) domestically before it ends its cinema run.

“Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” and Fathom’s specialty release of “The Chosen” third season are likely to take the fourth and fifth spots with ‘Puss’ headed for $7.9 million and the ‘Chosen’ multi-episode preview coming in at $6.6 million.
