Following Adult Swim dropping him from “Rick and Morty,” Hulu has dropped Justin Roiland from the series “Solar Opposites” which he co-created for the streamer. Roiland’s dismissal comes in the wake of revelations of a domestic violence charge against him.
Hulu is also removing Roiland from its recently debuted series “Koala Man” where he’s an executive producer and voice actor. In addition, 20th Television Animation has also cut ties with Roiland who had an overall deal with the studio. Roiland has also resigned from Squanch Games, the video game developer he founded in 2016.
Hulu and 20th TV Animation said in a statement: “We have ended our association with Justin Roiland”. Roiland co-created “Solar Opposites” with Mike McMahan with three seasons having aired thus far and the show having been renewed through a fifth season.
Both “Koala Man” and “Solar Opposites” are slated to continue without Roiland’s involvement. Roiland has pleaded not guilty to domestic violence charges stemming from a 2020 incident in Orange County, California.
Roiland’s attorney, T. Edward Welbourn, has called the media coverage of the charges “inaccurate” and has said in a statement: “To be clear, not only is Justin innocent, but we also have every expectation that this matter is on course to be dismissed once the district attorney’s office has completed its methodical review of the evidence.”
The news follows Adult Swim revealing that “Rick and Morty” will continue without Roiland, and his voice roles on the show (which includes both title characters) will be recast. Forty episodes remain on the show’s order which will take the series through a tenth season.
