Paramount+ has renewed the military drama “SEAL Team” for a seventh season. The series premiered on CBS in September 2017, with actors David Boreanaz, Max Thieriot, Neil Brown Jr., A. J. Buckley, Toni Trucks, Jessica Paré and Judd Lormand.
Renewed for a fifth season, the series was shifted over to Paramount+ and has proven to be “one of those shows that had that successful move from broadcast to streaming”, according to Paramount Streaming’s chief programming officer Tanya Giles.
Giles says in a statement: “We look forward to bringing SEAL Team fans even more of the series’ poignant storylines and thrilling missions with the upcoming seventh season. The series continues to evolve and grow its audience. It is a great example of the types of programming that we see resonate with our subscribers.”
Previously a standalone “SEAL Team” movie was announced last February, but that project is on hold for the moment as the seventh season has taken priority. Thieriot exited this past season and is now headlining CBS’ “Fire Country,” whilst Raffi Barsoumian’s Omar Hamza has been upgraded to a regular.
Meanwhile, Starz has renewed the Detroit-set series “BMF” for a third season on the heels of a strong debut performance for the second season premiere on January 6th. That episode brought in 4.1 million viewers across all platforms over its opening weekend.
Kathryn Busby, president of original programming at Starz says: “Following such a strong debut with season two, we’re thrilled to continue to expand on the incredible story of the Flenory brothers as they change the game by writing their own rules. We can’t wait to see what our extraordinary producers and cast deliver next.”
Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson executive produces the series about two brothers who rose from a decaying Detroit of the 1980s and founded the influential crime organization Black Mafia Family. Like his “Power” franchise, there are already plans for multiple spin-offs.
