Three-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep is set to appear in the third season of Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building” which has begun production.
Regular cast member Selena Gomez revealed Streep’s casting in an Instagram post on Tuesday alongside her co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short as well as returnees Paul Rudd and Andrea Martin who appeared last season.
Details of Streep’s role, and how extensive it may be, are under wraps. She joins a cast that includes Tina Fey, Vanessa Aspillaga, Adina Verson and Ryan Broussard along with fellow newcomer Jesse Williams who plays a documentarian with an interest in the Arconia building and his own set of secrets.
The new season is expected to pick up after the events of the second season finale in which famed actor Ben Glenroy (Rudd) dropped dead on stage with Martin’s Charles-Haden Savage character seen having bad words with him just moments before.
The role will be Streep’s first TV series appearance since the second season of HBO’s “Big Little Lies”. The actress has three Emmys to her name, most recently for multiple roles in HBO’s “Angels in America”.
Hulu says the show is its most popular original comedy and spent nine weeks in Nielsen’s top 10 streaming series chart in 2022 with 3.67 billion minutes of viewing time.
Disney’s 20th Television produces the series that Martin and John Hoffman co-created. Both executive prouce alongside Short, Gomez, Dan Fogelman and Jess Rosenthal.
