A surprise story of last year was CBS’ abrupt cancellation of “Magnum P.I.,” its Jay Hernandez-led 2018 remake of Tom Selleck’s famed 1980 crime drama series.

The series has been a Top 25 show in total viewers and was the most-watched broadcast series to get the axe last year. In the weeks after the axing, the show’s producer Universal Television spearheaded a push to save it as they did back in 2018 with “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” following its FOX cancellation.

Just like that show, a deal was worked out and the series has ended up on NBC where its fifth season will now run. Today, the network has released the first trailer for the new run as Thomas Magnum (Jay Hernandez), Juliet Higgins (Perdita Weeks) and the rest return to solve island crime in Hawaii.

TC (Stephen Hill), Kumu (Amy Hill), Gordon (Tim Kang) and Rick (Zachary Knighton) are all back for the new season which consists of a total of twenty episodes which will air in two ten-episode blocks. The trailer boasts the usual high-flying action with plenty of helicopter shots, fast cars, running leaps, a bit of flirting and even a steamy shower scene.

The first block of episodes commences on Sunday, February 19th with a two-hour special on NBC. Episodes will then be available to stream the following day on Peacock whilst previous seasons are currently available to stream through Apple iTunes, Amazon Video and Vudu.
