A careful balance of high and low-cost cards is needed to pull out heavy hitters from Lockjaw decks in Marvel SNAP.

Marvel SNAP‘s Lockjaw builds off the comic character’s power to transport himself and his companions through space and into other dimensions. His card’s ability, “When you play a card here, swap it with a card in your deck,” can pull out high-cost cards by playing low-cost cards. Decks need to strategically balance high and low-cost cards.

With a Power of two, Lockjaw isn’t an impressive card on its own. Including it in a deck is only worthwhile if the deck takes advantage of its swapping ability.

A bit of grinding is required to level up in Marvel SNAP and unlock Lockjaw, especially since cards within a pool have a random unlock order for each player.

Cards are unlocked by Collection Level in Marvel SNAP, not the Ranking Number to the right of the “Play” button. Collection Level is essentially the player level. Pool 3 is available from Level 486 onward and contains 75 cards, including Lockjaw. Match completion-given Boosters needed to raise Collection Level are only chosen from the deck used during the match, which was well-thought-out by Marvel SNAP’s creators because it encourages players to utilize cards they normally wouldn’t play.

Cards for a Lockjaw-Thanos Deck

The Lockjaw-Thanos combo is a popular Marvel SNAP deck build, and most players put their own spin on the idea, meaning there are countless variations. The goal is for Lockjaw to use the Stones, which only cost one energy, to pull out the high-cost cards while buffing Thanos if players are lucky enough to have played all 6 Stones. For the synergy to work, players want to have drawn Lockjaw by turn three, but it isn’t guaranteed to happen. Several of the Stones have draw abilities, increasing the chance of drawing Lockjaw compared to most decks. YouTuber ZombiesGoNomNom’s showcase of this deck expands on its mechanics.

Cards swapped out by Lockjaw still use On Reveal abilities, so low-cost cards added to the deck to pull out high-cost cards should have On Reveal to make them more than just dog fodder. Plus, they’ll trigger the beneficial ability again if they happen to be pulled a second time by Lockjaw. These cards aren’t all meant to be in one deck and are potential options for getting more high-power SNAP cards onto the board.

Playing a Lockjaw deck is always interesting because it’s a double dose of RNG, triple if Marvel SNAP Locations are taken into account. Despite being a roulette if the cards aren’t carefully balanced, Lockjaw is still a fun deck anchor, even if RNGesus is a no-show. He is a cosmic good boy.
