Oscar winner Morgan Freeman is set to join Nicole Kidman and Zoe Saldana in the cast of Taylor Sheridan’s latest original series “Lioness” for the Paramount+ service. Freeman will play Edwin Mullins, the United States Secretary of State in the series.

The story is based on a real-life CIA program and follows Cruz Manuelos (Laysla De Oliveira), a rough-around-the-edges but passionate young Marine recruited to join the CIA’s Lioness Engagement Team to help bring down a terrorist organization from within.

Saldana stars as Joe, the station chief of the Lioness program tasked with training, managing and leading her female undercover operatives to ready them for dangerous assignments in the field. Kidman will play Kaitlyn Meade, the CIA’s senior supervisor who has had a long career playing the politics game.

Dave Annable, Jill Wagner, LaMonica Garrett, James Jordan, Austin Hébert, Jonah Wharton, Stephanie Nur and Hannah Love Lanier also star.

Kidman will also executive produce alongside Sheridan, David C. Glasser, Saldana, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, David Hutkin, Jill Wagner, Geyer Kosinski, Michael Malone and John Hillcoat for MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios.

The show joins Sheridan’s ever-expanding slate at Paramount, which includes “Yellowstone,” “1883,” “1923,” “Tulsa King” and “Mayor of Kingstown” along with the upcoming “Land Man” and “1883: The Bass Reeves Story”.

Paramount Programming Chief, Tanya Giles, recently hinted to Indiewire that “Tulsa King” could generate its own spin-offs. When asked if it could be spun off in the way “Yellowstone” has, she says: “Short answer is absolutely. We’re open to the possibilities, everything.”
