HBO Max

Starz has picked up “Minx,” the comedy series starring Ophelia Lovibond and Jake Johnson, which was cancelled by HBO Max in a cost-cutting measure by Warner Bros. Discovery in early December.

The ten-episode first season of the critically-acclaimed show ran on HBO Max in the spring of last year. The second was a week away from finishing production before HBO Max rescinded its renewal and scrapped the series alongside multiple other shows around the same time.

The 1970s-set Minx revolves around Joyce (Lovibond), a young feminist who collaborates with a low-rent porn publisher (Johnson) to create the first erotic magazine aimed at women. Idara Victor, Jessica Lowe, Lennon Parham, Michael Angarano and Oscar Montoya also star, while Elizabeth Perkins will have a recurring role in season two.

The show’s producer Lionsgate said at the time it would look for a new home for the series, which had nearly completed production. They found one in-house with their own Starz network opting to pick it up. With the pickup, Starz also scores the rights to the first season.

Creator and showrunner Ellen Rapoport said in a statement: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining the Starz family, and for the opportunity to introduce Minx to a brand new audience, We’ve found the perfect home. Our writers, cast and crew have created something truly special in season two, and I can’t wait for everyone to see it.”

Rapoport executive produces with Paul Feig, Dan Magnante, Ben Karlin and Rachel Lee Goldenberg.
