The Producers Guild of America (PGA) has announced the nominations for their film and TV categories for the 34th Annual Producers Guild Awards on Saturday, February 25th.
Seen as the best predictor for Best Picture nominations for the Oscars, the ten nominees for the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures this year are:
“Avatar: The Way of Water,” “The Banshees of Inisherin,” “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” “Elvis,” “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” “The Fabelmans,” “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery,” “TÁR,” “Top Gun: Maverick,” and “The Whale”.
“The Fabelmans,” “Everything Everywhere All at Once” and “The Banshees of Inisherin” are all proving the films to beat after their strong showings at the Golden Globes and with multiple SAG Awards nominations the other day.
The best-animated feature nominees include “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio”, “Marcel the Shell with Shoes On”, “Minions: The Rise of Gru”, “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish”, “Turning Red”.
Best documentary nominees are “All That Breathes”, “Descendant”, “Fire of Love”, “Navalny”, “Nothing Compares”, “Retrograde”, “The Territory”.
In a category unique to the PGA but should be adopted elsewhere, nominations are out for best ‘Televised or Streamed Motion Pictures’ which deals with telemovies and films launched directly on streaming. Those include: “Fire Island”, “Hocus Pocus 2”, “Pinocchio”, “Prey”, and “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story”.
On the TV front “Andor”, “Better Call Saul”, “Ozark”, “Severance”, “The White Lotus” are competing for best drama; “Abbott Elementary”, “Barry”, “The Bear”, “Hacks”, “Only Murders in the Building” for best comedy; and “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story”, “The Dropout”, “Inventing Anna”, “Obi-Wan Kenobi”, “Pam & Tommy” for best-limited series.
The ceremony will also present special honors to powerhouse producers and leaders who have left their marks on the industry, including Tom Cruise, Mindy Kaling and current Warners chiefs and Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy.
