Filmmaker Shane Black (“Kiss Kiss Bang Bang,” “Iron Man 3”) is teaming up with AMC to develop a scripted series based on John R. Maxim’s Paul Bannerman novels.

Greg Nicotero (“The Walking Dead”), Brian Witten (“Creepshow”) and Black are developing the series together at AMC Networks where Nicotero is currently under an overall deal.

The book series consists of six titles published between 1989-2003: “The Bannerman Solution,” “The Bannerman Effect,” “Bannerman’s Law,” “A Matter of Honor,” “Bannerman’s Promise” and “Bannerman’s Ghosts”.

The story unfolds in the affluent and sleepy town of Westport, Connecticut, where the most lethal group of American contract agents in all of Europe, led by legendary top covert operative Paul Bannerman, have opted to ‘retire’ and take regular day jobs from bartending to travel agents.

They have had enough of hunting, and being hunted, and all they want is a chance at a normal life. However, the American Intelligence structure, which once saw them as assets, now sees them only as liabilities that must be eliminated. The plan is for Bannerman and all his key people to die in this suburbia, but Bannerman has other plans.

Nicotero says in a statement: “I read this entire series years ago and found the contrasting worlds of these dark and tortured souls desperate to live normal lives quite compelling. To partner with Shane on this, who shares the same passion that I do for the books, takes this project to a whole other level.”

Jeffrey Maxim will serve as a consulting producer on the project. Black last directed “The Predator” in 2018.
