New Star Wars Poster Art Highlights Sequel Trilogy Stars

A new set of Star Wars poster art highlights the sequel trilogy’s stars, Rey, Finn, Poe, and the villainous Kylo Ren, and it looks amazing.

Three brand-new pieces of Star Wars sequel trilogy poster art highlight the main characters in Disney’s trilogy of mainline saga films. After Disney purchased Lucasfilm and the Star Wars property in 2012, the company announced its plans to create a new set of films set after the events of the original trilogy. The first film in the sequel trilogy, 2015’s Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, was met with high praise by critics and Star Wars enthusiasts alike, but the two films that followed were much more divisive, leaving the Disney-era films with a complicated legacy.

When Will Star Wars Return To The Sequel Era?

Daisy Ridley in Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker

Despite the massive monetary success the sequel trilogy experienced, the franchise has hesitated to revisit that point in the timeline with its mainline content. Increasingly mixed reception as the Star Wars trilogy progressed is speculated by some to be one of the reasons for Disney and Lucasfilm’s patience in tackling further storytelling in that era. A substantial portion of the franchise’s fanbase has clamored for more sequel-era content, though, and that push seemingly continues to mount in popularity now that more than three years have passed since 2019’s Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker.

Readers of the novels and comics have been brought back into the sequel era in recent years, but it remains unclear as to when the television and film sides will follow suit. Set in the time between the originals and sequels, The Mandalorian has been the most courageous in delving into sequel-era imagery and stories. Season 2 dove deeper into the cloning of force-sensitive beings with Grand Moff Gideon’s kidnapping of Grogu to extract the mysterious being’s blood. That plot thread was actually introduced at the very beginning of The Mandalorian season 1, as Din Djarin unknowingly retrieved the 50-year-old green child for the purpose of having the species’ blood studied and worked on by cloning scientists like Dr. Pershing. It has since led viewers to speculate that Grogu might somehow be involved with Palpatine’s plan to clone himself.

Teases in recent Star Wars properties and rumors of the next film taking place shortly after the events of the saga’s ninth mainline installment should provide those who resonated with the sequels some hope that a return to that era will soon hit Disney+, the big screen, or perhaps both. If that happens, Daisy Ridley’s Rey may be the most likely returning character, considering that she seems likely to forge her own path for the future of the Jedi Order after the conclusion of the Disney trilogy. In the meantime, the new Star Wars sequel trilogy poster art brings the film’s stars back to the forefront in impressive fashion.
