Netflix has abruptly cancelled its popular adult animated series “Inside Job,” the cancellation coming down despite the series having already been renewed for a full-length second season back in June.
Lizzy Caplan, Christian Slater, Clark Duke, Andrew Daly, Bobby Lee, John DiMaggio, Tisha Campbell and Brett Gelman starred in the workplace comedy series which hailed from “Gravity Falls” writer Shion Takeuchi and creator Alex Hirsch.
Set in a world where many conspiracy theories are real, the story followed the American shadow government organization Cognito, Inc. A tech genius and her new partner work in the organization alongside reptilian shapeshifters, a human-dolphin hybrid, and a sapient mushroom from hollow Earth.
Word of the axing first surfaced on Saturday after one of the show’s writers posted a tweet saying the cancellation happened the day before. Takeuchi confirmed the news in a statement posted to Twitter, saying:
“I’m heartbroken to confirm that Netflix has decided to cancel Season 2 of Inside Job. Over the years, these characters have become real people to me, and I am devastated not to be able to watch them grow up.”
The first season was split into two parts, with the first ten episodes launching on October 22nd and the last eight on November 18th. The original renewal order for the second season was announced as part of Netflix’s Geeked Week celebrations.
