Rivian‘s Roomy Entry and Exit feature allows drivers to customize entry and exit for their electric models. Rivian is one of the many companies competing for market share in the evolving EV scene. Its R1T pickup is pitted against Ford’s F-150 Lightning and GMC’s Hummer EV. The competition among electric trucks is about to intensify, with Chevrolet set to begin deliveries of the electric Silverado this year. The Tesla Cybertruck is another upcoming electric pickup, though production is only slated to begin this year. Meanwhile, Rivian’s R1S SUV contends with the BMW iX, Genesis GV60 EV, and more.
Essentially, Roomy Entry and Exit makes it more convenient for Rivian drivers and passengers to enter and leave the SUV or pickup. Before it can work, the driver needs to set their favorite steering wheel and seat position. The good news is that there’s no limit to the number of drivers that can personalize the settings. To register a setting, drivers should use the vehicle access screen found in the center display and choose the ‘Set Position’ button located beneath the feature name. Through the thumb controls placed on the left and right sides of the steering wheel, drivers can set the reach and height to fit their respective needs.
Customizing Roomy Entry And Exit
Just as drivers can alter the steering wheel’s reach and height, this feature also allows them to unbend or recline their seats. Moving the seats forward or backward is also possible through the controls positioned on the lower left side. To save a position, drivers simply need to tap the ‘Remember Position’ button. By doing this, the R1S or R1T instantly records the settings and will apply them each time the EV is parked and the seatbelts come off.
Friends and family members can include their respective steering wheel and seating settings once they’re invited to do so using the Rivian mobile app. The EV will implement the preferred adjustments based on the key card, phone, or key fob used to access the door. While Rivian offers unlimited steering wheel and seating positions, only two drivers can use the smartphone as a key feature to activate this mode. To deactivate seat and steering wheel movements, drivers should tap either the side button or scroll wheel buttons found on the steering wheel. To edit a saved position or start afresh, users have to press either the ‘Change Position’ or ‘Forget Position’ controls, respectively.
It’s worth noting that there are some situations where Roomy Entry and Exit will be unavailable. When one’s driving position is identical to what’s registered as a preferred seating and steering position, this feature won’t be activated. It’s also possible for items kept in the rear seat footwells to prevent the driver’s seat from attaining the set position. The Kneel Mode is another convenience-based addition that lowers the EV’s height once activated for easy access and departure. Rivian says that drivers can use the Roomy Entry and Exit feature alongside Kneel Mode for a better experience.
