Disney+ is ready to greenlight an adaptation of CJ Sansom’s bestselling Shardlake novels about an unlikely hunchback lawyer-turned-detective working under Henry VIII’s reign. Justin Chadwick (“The Other Boleyn Girl,” “Becoming Elizabeth”) will direct the four-episode series, which will shoot in the UK this year.

Thomas Cromwell sends Dr Matthew Shardlake to investigate the beheading of Robin Singleton, a commissioner responsible for disbanding monasteries after Henry VIII declared himself supreme head of the Church of England. Sir Kenneth Branagh was attached to a previous failed attempt to adapt the books in 2007. [Source: Deadline]

Truth Be Told
Apple TV+ has released the official trailer for the third season of its Octavia Spencer and Gabrielle Union-led “Truth Be Told” anthology series, which is back on January 20th. Returning cast includes Mekhi Phifer, David Lyons, Ron Cephas Jones, Merle Dandridge, Tracie Thoms, Haneefah Wood, Mychala Faith Lee and Tami Roman.

Spencer plays an investigative reporter turned true-crime podcaster who risks everything in pursuit of the truth. In the new run, she teams with an unorthodox principal (Union) to keep the names of several missing Black girls in the public eye while chasing down leads to a suspected sex trafficking ring that may have kidnapped them.

The Last of Us
HBO’s “The Last of Us” TV series adaptation is set to premiere next weekend, and anticipation will only increase. Now, a newly released behind-the-scenes video offers a look at the basic setup and, unfortunately, gives away a spoiler for those who’ve never played the game.

Pedro Pascal stars as Joel, a broken man and smuggler tasked with transporting a 14-year-old girl (Bella Ramsey) to the military faction known as the Fireflies. The series debuts on HBO on Sunday, January 15th.
