Apple TV+ has released the first trailer for the second season of “Foundation,” the long-in-the-works adaptation of Isaac Asmiov’s classic hard sci-fi novel series.

The story chronicles a band of exiles on their unprecedented journey to rebuild civilization amid the fall of the Galactic Empire. Crucial individuals transcending space and time are faced with deadly crises, shifting loyalties and complicated relationships that will ultimately determine the fate of humanity.

The series story spans centuries as multiple groups fight to control the destiny of humankind. The second season is set after the fall of the Empire as the members of the Foundation still have to rebuild society along with facing the Crisis of Religion – people using words of the divine to control the hopeless populous who struggle after the fall of the Empire.

The ensemble cast includes Jared Harris, Lee Pace, Lou Llobell, Leah Harvey, Laura Birn, Terrence Mann, and Cassian Bilton, who are joined in the new run by Isabella Laughland, Kulvinder Ghir, Sandra Yi Sencindiver, Ella-Rae Smith, Dimitri Leonidas, Ben Daniels, Holt McCallany, Rachel House, and Nimrat Kaur.

David S. Goyer serves as showrunner of the series, which he previously said could last for eight seasons and run around eighty episodes. Whether that’s achievable in a streaming landscape – we’ll see.

The second season of “Foundation” is expected to arrive sometime this summer, though the streaming giant has not set an official date as yet.
