Teaser Trailer Avatar 2 Way Of Water

Those who’ve doubted James Cameron, prepare to wipe that smirk off your face as the costly “Avatar: The Way of Water” is set to close out the year’s box office with a big splash.

In its third weekend, the film dominated the Friday box office with a haul of $24.4 million. It is currently on track to gross $66.8 million for the three-day and around $88 million for the four-day (Monday is a holiday for many businesses).

That three-day is actually up 6% from last week’s Christmas holiday weekend, whilst the four-day haul, even if it’s a dip overall, will only be off by 3-4% at most. By the end of the weekend, it’ll likely have grossed more than $445 million to overtake “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” as the second highest-grossing domestic release of 2022.

“Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” is set to come in second with $6.5 million on Friday and an estimated $15.9 million over the three-day and $21.2 million over the four-day holiday with a total gross thus far of $66.6 million. Its three-day is a rise of 43% compared to last week.

“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” will come in third with $5.2 million for the three-day and $7 million for the four-day. “Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody” will take $4.1 million for the three-day and $5.2 million for the four-day.

Closing out the top five is “Babylon” whose second weekend sadly didn’t change its forecast. Whereas many other films saw only small dips or rises from the Christmas weekend, this is tracking to make $3 million for the three-day – down 17% – and $4 million for the four-day. By the end of the weekend, its total will be at $11.4 million.
