Today saw the season finale of “Star Trek: Prodigy” released, which means Paramount+ is putting new “Star Trek” on hold for seven weeks until the third and final season of “Star Trek: Picard” debuts in February.
A special episode of “The Ready Room with Wil Wheaton” aired after the ‘Prodigy’ finale to discuss the events of the episode and interview the cast and creatives. To close out the talk show, Wheaton introduced the first clip from the new “Picard” run.
Whilst we’ve seen two trailers to date, this marks the first straight clip and includes a clever bit of fan service with the inclusion of the Kurlan Naiskos artifact “Star Trek: The Next Generation” episode “The Chase” along with a very familiar uniform.
The scene sees Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) having a peaceful moment at home when he receives a surprise encrypted communication. Though not shown in the clip, it’s likely the call is coming from Dr. Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden) whose disappearance kicks off the events of the new season.
Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, LeVar Burton, Marina Sirtis, and Michael Dorn also all return for one final high-stakes mission as they go up against Amanda Plummer as Vadic, captain of a starship called the Shrike who has a grievance with Picard and Starfleet.
The third and final season of “Picard” premieres on Thursday, February 16th, exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.S., Crave in Canada and Amazon Prime Video around the rest of the world, with new episodes of the ten-episode run streaming weekly on Thursdays.
