A couple weeks ago, we shared a look at the poster for the upcoming backwoods horror film Those Who Call, which Uncork’d Entertainment will be giving a digital release on January 10th. The poster can be seen at the bottom of this article, and now a trailer for Those Who Call can be seen in the embed above! Check it out and see if this looks like a movie you’ll be adding to your watch list next month.
Written and directed by Anubys Lopez… who shares a first name with the Ancient Egyptian god of death, Anubis… Those Who Call tells the story of two sisters that go on a road trip to Colorado. On their way there, their car breaks down in an abandoned old town. Soon they realize things aren’t what they seem, and they aren’t alone in the forest. They find themselves being hunted by a sadistic pagan cult and must do everything in their power to survive.
Angie Sandoval, Yetlanezi Rodriguez, Reese Fast, Kevin Kinkade, and Addison Cousins star.
Keith Leopard, the President of Uncork’d Entertainment, said that Those Who Call should be considered a must-see for anyone who enjoyed The Lodge, Winchester, and The Heretics. Although Those Who Call marks the feature directorial debut of Lopez, his IMDb bio says he already has a signature style: “His works are usually horrors or thrillers based on true events or small town’s folklore. He is known for having abrupt, shocking or unexpected endings to his films. All his films are made purposely to make audiences feel uneasy and uncomfortable. He believes horror should be more psychological than physical, and films are scarier and more relatable if it could happen to the viewer.“
What did you think of the Those Who Call trailer? Will you be watching the full movie in January? Let us know by leaving a comment below. I would have liked to have seen more from the trailer, but I might give it a chance. I didn’t expect the blend of Cabin Fever, The Last Exorcism, and The Grudge influences the trailer packed into its 78 seconds.
