Even though the holiday is upon us, Hugh Jackman has still been out there working and promoting his role in Florian Zeller’s “The Son” film adaptation.

So, once again, he’s been talking about his return to the role of Logan/Wolverine in “Deadpool 3” which is expected to shoot in mid-2023 for a late 2024 release.

Previously Jackman had talked about how upon watching the first “Deadpool” he could immediately see a “48 Hrs.” style dynamic that could be played between his Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool, but never thought he’d get the chance to do it with his commitment in place to be killed off in 2017’s “Logan”.

Things changed a few months ago, and now he gets his chance, whilst Marvel’s multiverse embrace will keep the legacy of “Logan” intact. With the project now progressing, will the onscreen pairing follow the squabbling buddy comedy of that aforementioned film?

Jackman tells Empire it sort of will as the movie will begin with a hate/hate dynamic between the pair:

“How do I categorize it? Ten being really close, zero being the reality, we’re zero, we’re opposites, hate each other. I’m just talking from my perspective, [Logan’s] frustrated by him, wants to be a million miles away from him or wants to punch him in the head. Unfortunately, he can’t be a million miles away from him in this movie, so I’m probably going to punch him in the head a lot.”

He was then asked if the film would borrow other elements of “48 Hrs.,” a movie considered the first in the “buddy cop” genre, such as the eponymous short space of time in which events unfold. Looks like it won’t:

“No, it’s just in the banter relationship, just that sorta opposites; he’s the vinegar to [my oil]. He’s the fast-talking, quick-worded loudmouth, and my character just wants to punch him in the head. To just shut him up.”

Jackman is expected to spend much of the first half of 2023 training to get into “better shape than ever”, and he says he “just get(s) the added incentive of taking Ryan Reynolds out every day, so I really want to be capable, so I can enjoy it.”

“Deadpool 3” arrives in cinemas on November 8th 2024.
