The upcoming fifth installment in the Evil Dead series, Evil Dead Rise, will continue the long running tradition of being incredibly gory.
In a recent interview with Empire Magazine, director Lee Cronin spoke about his upcoming take on the Evil Dead franchise, and while he didn’t give up too much information, he did note that there will be a ton of blood — a franchise staple.
“It straps you onto a rocket that’s fueled by blood,” Cronin jokingly said. “You can either get off or you stay on ’til it explodes.”
Cronin also spoke more in-depth about just how much fake blood was used in the film, saying that he ended up using more than 6,500 liters (~1,700 gallons) of it and that some of it even made it home with him after days of production.
“I had to hire an industrial kitchen to create the amount of blood we needed … when I was checking out, I had to warn the landlord, ‘You’re going to find bloody handprints all over the apartment — but they’re not real, honest!’”
