“Daredevil” star Charlie Cox has to clarify some of his own comments that he made the other week about his Marvel character, comments that stirred up a rumor about a potential “Deadpool 3” cameo.
Cox appeared at Germany’s Roster Con 2022 a while back and at a panel, suggested that the upcoming “Daredevil: Born Again” series could, from a humor and action stance, be akin to the “Deadpool” films.
Cox then added, “there’s a place for Daredevil to show up in Deadpool” before realising what he said and added: “Great, now that’ll be a news story”. Well, it did – the Marvel rumor mill churning in the wake of those comments and speculation quickly rising that he could have a cameo in the upcoming “Deadpool 3”.
There is a precedent as Deadpool and Daredevil have teamed up in various Marvel comics over the decades, and both are popular characters by widely-liked actors.
Sadly though this week, speaking with TechRadar to promote the Netflix series “Treason” launching over Christmas, Cox confirmed he wouldn’t appear in the next “Deadpool” film even though he knows the comments are going to upset someone either way:
“Oh god, what did I say again? Oh yeah, I said that in Germany, didn’t I? I can tell you now I’m definitely not in Deadpool 3. If it ends up being true, I’ve inadvertently spoiled something. If it isn’t, fans who are excited about something I say will end up being disappointed.”
Cox has come off quite genuine in interviews and will be very busy shooting the eighteen-episode “Daredevil: Born Again” series for eleven months of next year – including whilst “Deadpool 3” is filming. Then again, Cox was also able to keep his cameo in “Spider-Man: No Way Home” under wraps for a good while, so you never know.
Cox, who reprised the character in this year’s “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law,” will be seen playing the character again in several episodes of next year’s “Echo” series for Marvel before fully returning to the role in “Daredevil: Born Again” which will air in 2024.
