Starz

As a gift for “Outlander” fans ahead of Christmas Day, Starz has released a first-look trailer for the upcoming seventh season of its period drama “Outlander” which returns next Summer.

The new season clocks in at a whopping sixteen episodes. That’s double the eight episodes of the sixth season, several more than the thirteen episodes of seasons two through four and twelve episodes of season five, and on par with the first season, which was also sixteen episodes.

Whether this will be split into two runs of eight like that first season was is unclear. The new run is based on the seventh novel in the series “An Echo in the Bone” in which Jamie and Claire are now in the midst of the American Revolution.

Meanwhile, Lord John Grey and his stepson William are embroiled on the British side of the war. Finally, Brianna and Roger and their family have returned from the past and settled at Lallybroch in the 1970s – but the past will soon catch up with them.

New cast members this season include Charles Vandervaart as William Ransom, Izzy Meikle-Small as Rachel Hunter and Joey Phillips as Denzell Hunter.

The series will also further the stories of fan-favorites Claire and Jamie Fraser, Brianna and Roger MacKenzie (Richard Rankin), Young Ian (John Bell), Lord John Grey (David Berry), and Lizzie Beardsley (Caitlin O’Ryan).
