On the JoBlo Movies YouTube channel, we will be posting one full movie every day of the week, giving viewers the chance to watch them entirely free of charge. Today’s Free Movie of the Day is a rather unique one, as it’s a thriller that’s told from the perspective of the lead character’s shadow. That description might lead you to think the movie is somehow filmed from a shadow’s point of view, but that’s not the case. In this movie, which is called Apotheosis, the voiceover narration is being delivered by a person’s shadow. I’ve definitely never seen or heard that done before. You can watch the movie over on the YouTube channel linked above, or you can just watch it in the embed at the top of this article.
The feature debut of writer/director Matt Hartley, Apotheosis has a synopsis that doesn’t give away much more information than what was already said in the first paragraph of this article. It just tells us that this is a dark twisted tale of a man who’s accused of murdering his girlfriend, told from his shadow’s perspective.
The film stars Cary Mark, Marley Frank, Mann Alfonso, Tom Alper, Cheyenne Buchanan, Chance Caeden, Mark Anthony Collins Jr., Matthew Crowley, Dave Faulkner, Gregory Gordon, Toby Guebert, Steve McEvers, Ara Nazaryan, Scotty Philip, Sean Dunn Reynolds, and David Solesbee.
In case you’re wondering what “apotheosis” means, Wikipedia has this covered: “In theology, apotheosis refers to the idea that an individual has been raised to godlike stature. In art, the term refers to the treatment of any subject (a figure, group, locale, motif, convention or melody) in a particularly grand or exalted manner.”
Since making Apotheosis, Hartley has gone on to write and direct the horror comedy Cult Following and the sci-fi film Silhouettes. So take a look at Apotheosis – it’s free! – and let us know what you thought of it by leaving a comment below or on the YouTube page.
